Navigation Banners Overview

The navigation banner is near the top of your website and houses links that customers can use to navigate. For example, you could have a link for your store's blog in the navigation banner so customers can view advice. An example of the navigation banner is also highlighted in red in the image below.

Here is how to customize the Navigation Banners on your store's website:

  1. Display Name — Enter the text for the link that will display on the website.
  2. Path — Enter the URL path for this link. Do not include your store's full URL; just include the slash and the text for this link that follows the store's full URL. For example, if the full URL for this page would be examplepetstore.com/products, just enter /products in this field.
  3. Display Order — Enter a whole number here to indicate where in the order this link will appear in the banner. For example, Shop By is the first link to the left because its display order is 1.
  4. Dropdown Type — This column indicates if the link in the banner will have a drop-list with multiple items. Your options are:
    • Category Dropdown — If you mark a banner as a Category Dropdown, it will not redirect the customer to a link and instead show a dropdown menu of the store's categories when a customer rolls their cursor over it. For example, in the image below, the Shop By banner displays a dropdown menu of all categories and subcategories.

    • Custom Dropdown — If you mark a banner as Custom Dropdown, the banner will show a drop-list you've configured when a customer clicks on it. To learn how to configure a custom dropdown, read about Custom Dropdown Items and Edit Items below in numbers 5 and 6, respectively.

    • Not a Dropdown — Mark a banner with Not a Dropdown if the banner is not a dropdown menu. A customer clicking on this banner will be directed to another page.
  5. Custom Dropdown Items — This column allows you to edit the links that go into a Custom Dropdown. Read Edit Items in number 6 below to learn how to add and edit these links.
  6. Edit Items — If a banner has Custom Dropdown, it will have an Edit Items button in the Custom Dropdown Items column. Click on this button to add and edit links for the dropdown. Here is everything you can do to add items to the dropdown:

    1. Label — Add the text that will display for this link.
    2. URL — Add the URL of the link. This can be both an internal link (links to another page on your website) or an external link (links to a website that isn't your store's).
    3. Tooltip — Enter tooltip text here. A tooltip will pop up when a customer hovers their cursor over the link and give a short description of the link or tool.
    4. Position — Enter a number here to indicate where in the order from the top this link will appear in the dropdown. Note that these positions start at 0 and not 1. For example, FBC is the first link in the dropdown and is marked with a position of 0.
    5. New Tab — Check this box if you want this link to open in another tab.
    6. Active — Check this box to indicate the link is active.
    7. Delete — Click on the Trash Can Icon to remove this link from the dropdown.
    8. Add Item — Click on this button to add another row so you can enter another link for the dropdown.
    9. Cancel — Click on Cancel to cancel your changes.
    10. Save — Click on Save to save your changes and update your website.
  7. Remove — Click on the Trash Can Icon on the right of a banner to remove it.
